Landscaping

It’s only taken a brief year and a half, but the landscaping project at our house if FINALLY done! A year ago in the Spring I had my first call with landscapers. After repeated calls with no response . . . a friend who worked with this particular landscaper even asked them to return my call . . . I decided to give up on this referral. We moved into summer and next up was another referral (silly girl that I am I thought that it would be a good thing having a referral!) who actually showed up for a face-to-face meeting. This landscaper had great ideas, took a ton of notes and measurements, and promised to get back with a written estimate and drawings. Once again we had multiple unreturned phone calls and a not-so-gentle reminder from our friend who had referred them that they needed to call. They assured him that they would indeed be calling . . . we’ve now moved into fall and the leaves are coming down but no phone call ever came. It’s now spring of the following year and I’m on to yet another landscaper. This one actually answered the phone and agreed to meet. Once again I was thrilled with his ideas. Once again it was multiple phone calls and apologies. My sheer stubbornness kept me going. I was determined to not start over yet again! And low and behold, the project finally got started last week and finished this week. Amazing!

After all this, I’ve decided that this is a sales technique that landscapers use. They get you so frustrated, aggravated and impatient, that when the work actually gets done you are so thrilled you can hardly stand it. Fascinating business model, but the job is done!
